Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy (also known as “proliferation” or “regenerative therapy”) is a safe, effective treatment for pain and inflammatory conditions. It involves the injection of an irritant, usually a glucose solution mixed with local anaesthetic, in the region of damaged tendons, ligaments or joints.

Prolotherapy is used to relieve pain and promote tissue healing by stimulating an inflammatory response. This process helps to deposit new additional fibres, thereby resulting in repair and increased strength. Prolotherapy may be used to treat:

  • Tendonitis / Tendinopathy (most commonly around the knee, Achilles, foot and ankle)
  • Plantar Fascia / Heel pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
  • Neuroma
  • Bursitis
  • Osteoarthritic joints

Most people require between 3 and 6 injections. On top of this, exercises are likely to be prescribed to help release and strengthen the area. Nutrients are also very important in promoting the health and repair of ligaments, tendons, muscles and bones, so supplements may be prescribed in conjunction with your treatment.
