If you’ve ever had lower back pain that stops you in your tracks, then this is for you
So….
Introduction
This is important because lower back pain is typically not treated well. Understanding the vicious cycle of lower back pain will set you free. If lower back pain is not treated thoroughly, it can reduce your confidence, leave you anxious and vulnerable to relapses.
This can impact activities such as picking up your children and staying active enough to keep the weight off. Over time this reduced confidence and weight gain can impact your physical wellbeing and your mental health.
I don’t want that for you.
Here is the upside
I want you to have the strength and support around your lower back that your body needs to succeed. Whether this is picking up your children, keeping active to keep the weight gain at bay, or putting your shoes on in the morning.
I want you to improve your well being and mental health by having the confidence to get more active again. This will flow on to you achieving your goals and desires, whatever that may be.
To treat the lower back you commonly need to look outside the back
So here is what I want to share with you today: With lower back issues a lot of the time the problem is not just the lower back. It is more problems in the joints supporting the lower back. You see the lower back needs support from 3 key areas in order to function at a high level. These 3 key areas are your legs, your hips and your core or mid-section.
Without strength and support in these 3 key areas, it can leave the back vulnerable. Weakness in these 3 areas leads to more pressure being placed on the lower back. Causing pain and reduced confidence.
Medication is a band-aid solution
Taking medications such as Panadol and anti-inflammatories is a temporary solution to reduce your pain. Once your pain has settled and you get on with your life, your back will continue to not have the support it needs. Leading to a very high chance of a relapse and your symptoms returning. Medication can have a role in the early phase of reducing your pain. It is very unlikely to lead to any real solution for your lower back concerns.
Do you have referred pain down your leg?
If you are getting pain referring down your leg in combination with your lower back pain, this is common. This is simply a type of referred pain, commonly known as sciatica. Your brain is tricked into thinking you have a problem in your buttock and your leg in combination with the lower back. This can be settled well initially with medication and Physiotherapy treatment. Physiotherapy treatment will reduce your pain naturally through manual treatment, taping and education.
Once your pain has settled, don’t be fooled into thinking that your issue is resolved. Once the referral has reduced then you must kick into the strength work. Strengthening the 3 key areas, your legs, your hips and your core provide the support needed to your lower back. Without this it will likely lead to a relapse and frustration for you. You must treat the true causes!
Listen, I hope this was helpful
