Common misconceptions with neck pain!

I was just enjoying a cup of coffee this morning and starting thinking about the common misconceptions I find people have with neck pain. I was inspired to share this with you. I hope it’s valuable.

So…

Understanding neck pain is important because if you don’t know the true reasons why you have this reoccurring neck pain then it will continue to cause you aches, frustration, time and energy.

Impacting your day to day and AND stopping you doing the things that you love!

I don’t want that for you.

I want you to be confident, strong and back to living pain free and your best life.

So here is what I want to share with you today:

Tips for long term neck relief

  1. Firstly, you’ve got to understand that it’s not just your neck causing you the grief,  9/10 it’s a signal that other areas of your body are not strong enough yet to support your neck, keeping you on the vicious cycle of on and off neck pain..

Everything is connected, if your neck is sitting on an “unstable base”. Your neck will not be supported in those day-to-day movements we rely on. It’s amazing the toll your neck can take from everyday activities such as checking the blind spot in your car or sitting for many hours a day in front of a computer screen.

But the biggest show of this impact is the pain your body is presenting with and the impact on your life.

Do you get neck pain pop up randomly on and off?

Do you experience headaches?

Do you have stress in your life?

Do you find it hard to focus on your work or enjoy time off due to experiencing neck pain?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s your body letting you know, now is the time to act.

Here is the thing, knowing how to address your neck pain where it doesn’t come back is one of the biggest challenges our clients report when coming to see us for the first time.

Here’s where to start:

1. Address the way you work

In this day and age most of us are working in front of screens, for some of, if not most of the day.

The way we work has significant impact on the long-term health of our neck. Adjusting how we work from day to day can make a difference to how we feel in our neck at the end of a long day.

Make sure that you’re sitting high enough at your desk, you don’t want to be looking down or up at a monitor. It’s best to be eye level with your screen so that your neck is not sitting at peculiar angles during the day.

Another tip here is make sure you’re not staying stagnant for long periods of time. Make sure to move your body and get up from your desk, whether that be working from a stand-up position or doing a quick stretch it all helps!

 2.  Treating the true causes of your neck pain so it stops catching you out!
Running specific tests with a trained physiotherapist can work out exact strength deficits in your body. Identifying areas you need to strengthen, will be the needle mover in addressing neck pain long-term

Hands on relief in isolation will only ever give you short term relief leaving you at the mercy of unexpected and reoccurring pain!

Clients get the best results from a step-by-step tailored plan that is specific to their needs and combines short-term pain relief strategies with a long-term solution to stop it coming back.
I hope this was helpful!
