There’s a lot of misinformation out there regarding hip osteoarthritis. I wanted to drop by and share something really helpful for you.
Introduction
This is important because if you don’t learn how to treat an arthritic hip properly then the impact of this is that you will be in continued problems. This will lead to continued pain, limited function. This will leave you frustrated, questioning your employment and career options. Eventually even impacting your physical health choices and well-being. The flow on impact of this is you will likely put on weight, feel like there are no options outside surgery and a total hip replacement. This is not true.
And I don’t want that for you.
I want you to feel empowered, energised and out of pain. To have a hip that you have confidence and trust to achieve your goals and live a life with freedom of choice. I want you to take charge of your life, lose the weight, build the strength and put your fears and anxieties around your hip behind you.
Surgery is not always the solution
So here is what I want to share with you today:
Medication and waiting for hip surgery is not the answer to your problem. Unfortunately, common advice given from many GP’s is that the only solution is to get a total hip replacement. This is so far from the case. A more thorough assessment is required, beyond a simple x-ray. A commonly overlooked aspect is looking at the strength and support around your hip. An arthritic hip can benefit significantly from strength work around the hip. By building the muscles around your hip it provides more structure and support. This leads to reduced pain, improved function which will likely delays or remove the need for surgery. How good is that?
Physiotherapy treatment is essential to improve your function
An expert needs to hold your hand through this process. Physiotherapists are experts at guiding you through a progressive strengtheing treatment plan. This includes hands on treatment for pain relief, combined with a progressive strengthening plan. This enables the pain to be minimalised first around your arthritic hip. Followed by a plan to build the muscles around your hip. A delicate balance is needed here, over a period of 3-4 months. The benefits of this will be a significant change in the following:
- your pain levels will reduce
- your independence will increase,
- your strength will dramatically increase
- your outlook will change.
This will lead to a life more full of ambitions and achieving your goals rather than settling for 2nd best.
Listen, I hope this was helpful
