Prolonged screen time and the impact on your neck pain

If you’ve ever had neck pain that keeps coming back then this is for you.

This is important because neck pain is everywhere in 2024. We are spending more time than ever in front of screens. Smart phones, iPad’s, laptops are all a major part of modern-day life. These products are important for us to connect with each other in both our personal and professional life.

Without the right set up on your screen, the result is ongoing neck pain that is difficult to treat. It leaves you frustrated and in pain without a resolution.

And I don’t want that for you.

I want you to be feeling happy and energised as you are connecting with your friends on social platforms such as instagram, snap chat and facebook. I also want you to be focused and in to a rhythm with your school and work tasks. This is essential for you to hit your goals and move your life forward.

So here is what I want to share with you today, my top 3 tips to help assist with this.

Tip 1 – Get yourself set up for success at home.

Use the 90-90-90 rule. That is a 90 deg angle at your ankles, knees and hips. The key to a proper posture is the 90-90-90 rule. You should have your chair at the proper height to maintain a 90 degree angle at your knees, your hips and at your elbows. To achieve this: your chair need to be at the right height to place your feet flat on the floor. Check out the picture below for clarity.

Tip 2 – You need to improve your mid back movement.

Screen time can hunch you forward over time, as keeping to the 90-90-90 rule isn’t always achievable. This will lead to a rounding of your shoulders and a rounding of your back. We need to incorporate movements that do the opposite, to rotate and extend.

Tip 3 – Build strength to support your neck.

Despite the 90-90-90 rule we need to build the strength in muscles to help build resilience to hold us in this position, so that it becomes easy. This allows us to stay in the position with ease and enjoy being in this position as we focus on our work and study. Getting set up in the right position is important as is improving your back movement. Without building the strength your neck will not have the support it needs.

Listen, I hope this was helpful
