I was just with a client and they asked me about strength training for their teenager…
The most common question I get with this is “Is it safe?”. I’d love to talk about what I shared with her, as I believe it can prove extremely valuable for everyone.
So….
This is an important topic to discuss because theres a lot of misinformation out there. If you don’t understand the foundations of strength training for teenagers… they’re left with less confidence and a lack of information, which does not lead to success.
I don’t want that for them.
I want them to have the confidence to hit their strength goals, train well and be set up for success moving into adulthood.
So here is what I want to share today:
The answer is yes: Strength training is SAFE and can be incredible for teens with the expertise, guidance and supervision of a physiotherapist.
They’re still growing!
Adolescents need to be assessed by a professional to create a program that best suits their goals and your body.
Strength and conditioning programs should always be set up by a professional.. even more so with teens.
The benefits of strength training can include:
- Building confidence
- Building strength as they grow
- Set their body up for moving into late teens/ early adulthood.
- Strength training as a teen can help build bone density early
- Increase in performance in their chosen sport
- Reduced chance of injury
- Helps when doing lots of different kinds of sport/ training (We know sporty kids love variety).
- Makes them accountable: Being on a structured program means they’re accountable for their progress and results
- Exercising determination and mental strength.
These are just some of the benefits with strength training for teens, any questions get it touch!
Listen, I hope you found this helpful.
