I was enjoying a refreshing drink on the deck this morning and started thinking about the summer holidays. Specifically, all the amazing plans my clients have over this time. It got me reflecting on some tips that I like to pass along to my clients during this time-I hope you find this valuable.
So…
This is is an important topic to discuss: If you don’t have an awareness of common patterns in your body over this time, you’re left confused and vulnerable to stiff and sore shoulders. You are ultimately left disadvantaged and unable to truly enjoy your summer vacation.
I don’t want that for you.
I want you to be well informed, have confidence in your body and be prepared for all activities and journeys ahead.
So here is what I want to share with you today:
1. You’re moving differently
Summer brings plenty of fun and something to be aware of is that you’re likely going to use muscles that you haven’t had a chance to in a long time. You’ll be swimming, surfing and completing other fitness-based activities which you get less chance at during the year.
2. Long trips
Another point to be aware of is during those road trips and travel plans is to bring an awareness to your back and into your shoulders. How are they feeling? How are you moving?
When you’re taking breaks from driving make sure to stretch your legs, your back and your shoulders.
Get your daily rehab exercises in before you set off for the day:
Being stronger in your body will help reduce the likelihood of stiffness and tenderness in your back and shoulders during long drives.
3. Hot tip
Make sure to pack a lacrosse ball or foam roller when you’re off on that road trip, camping or time away.
They’re compact and can go a long way in helping ease tension in your neck, back and shoulders. The lacrosse ball can be great to use in the car as a passenger when staying stagnant for long periods of time.
Listen, I hope you found this helpful!
