The crucial step most overlook in Rehab!

If you’ve ever had a problem that keeps coming back over and over again then this is for you.

This is important because neglecting your rehabilitation once your pain eases can undo all the progress you’ve made. Your problem will come back. I have seen this time and time again in my 20 + years of treating. This is disappointing as you have worked so hard to get the pain to settle. Without the steps beyond pain relief, you are putting a band-aid on, that is it. By stopping now, it leads to setbacks and prolonging your recovery. I don’t want that for you. I want you to regain your strength, mobility, and overall well-being. I want this to happen as swiftly and effectively as possible.

So here is what I want to share with you today:

Consistency is Key

Imagine your rehabilitation journey as building blocks. Each exercise or therapy session adds to your progress. It adds layers of development. But if you skip a block, your foundation weakens. You can easily fall off and the dissapointment of flare ups is enevitable. I’ve seen many patients make significant strides only to falter because they let their routine slide. Or they commonly don’t prioritise their own health and well being. By staying consistent, you’re not just maintaining progress; you’re reinforcing it. This ensures a stronger recovery in the long run. You are enough, you are worth it and for you to be the best version of yourself, you must prioritise your health.

 Communication is Vital

Your healthcare provider isn’t just there to prescribe exercises or do massage treatment; they’re your ally in recovery. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns. We are there to guide and support you. Commonly, to achieve success in rehabilitation it involves over coming many “life” obstacles to achieve success. We are here to help, to guide and provide solutions. Whether it’s a lingering pain or uncertainty about your regimen, open communication ensures you’re getting the support you need. Remember, your provider wants to see you succeed just as much as you do.

 Goals Drive Progress

Setting tangible goals can transform your rehab journey from a chore to a personal mission. That is why at Freedom Sports Medicine we are very clear on your goals from the initial consultation. We then work with you in your rehabilitation to keep you focused on your goals or “why”. It is essential to have a guiding “north star”. When challenges are thrown at you, the deeper meaning behind your rehabilitation keeps you focused and driven. When we have clear goals and a deeper purpose it makes it so much easier. This may be to pick up your grand children, to hiking a mountain, or to travel overseas and run a marathon. What matters to you is important and our job is to help you achieve it. Instead of focusing solely on the pain, think about what you want to achieve. Whatever it is, break it down into manageable steps and celebrate each milestone. Goals provide direction and motivation, making your rehabilitation journey more fulfilling and rewarding.

Listen, I hope this was helpful.
