I was enjoying a coffee on my deck early this morning and started thinking about the strength of my neck as I started moving it side to side giving it a stretch. What I was thinking on could be very useful, so I thought I’d share.
I hope it’s valuable to you…
So…
Understanding the importance of your neck strength is critical. if you don’t know the effect that the lack of strength in your neck can have then you are vulnerable.
Vulnerable to headaches, injury, a constant stiff and sore neck. This means that you are likely not at your best to live life to the fullest!
I don’t want that for you.
I want you to feel confident, strong and capable in your neck. Where you’re not wondering if you CAN do something, you WILL DO whatever it is you put your mind too!
So here is what I want to share with you today:
-
THE WHY:
I want to paint a clear picture for you of WHY it’s so imperative to have a strong neck. Including why you need to actively work on your neck to achieve the strength you need for long term results!
Your neck is critical to so many other joints in the body, it’s keeping your head on your shoulders…
There is a reason neck issues are so commonly presented here in the clinic.
Chronic neck pain, headaches, stiffness, aches and pains.
You name it, I’ve seen it all!
Imagine you’ve got a cake on a cake platter, the cake platter is flimsy, made of a floppy card. The cake is heavy, sturdy and full of ingredients. Below the cake is rows and rows of cupcakes in a beautiful tier.
NOW.. let’s imagine that the cake stand starts to buckle under the constant weight of the cake. It starts slowly at first and then BAM! Crashes down, smashing the cupcakes underneath..
Not a pretty picture right?
Your neck is that flimsy stand, with constant pressure and misuse it’s buckled and crashed. This causes a flow on effect to the layer’s underneath (Your shoulders, mid back and even into your lower back).
Does this make sense?
Great!
Let’s kick on…
2. THE HOW:
I’m a huge advocate for strength work!
Shying away from targeted and specific strengthening work will likely lead to developing niggles or pain in your neck.
If you don’t strengthen these areas pain will continue to crop out until it feels like a constant battle! Strength work is absolutely key, not just in your neck but into other joints too. Especially those joints that play a big part in the efficient function of your neck such as your shoulders and your back.
If you’re looking for a thorough assessment of your neck, our experienced physios can help to provide you with a clear plan forward. Now is the time to start the journey to reach your strengthening goals!
Listen, I hope you found this helpful!
